We Are Medusea

Founded by biologist Ana Gordillo (Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences), we offer a specialized service in the breeding, sale, and distribution of various jellyfish species.

How We Started

After my first internship as an aquarist in a public aquarium, I was captivated by jellyfish. At the time, I was already practicing diving and sailing, and I had encountered these wonderful marine creatures many times. But it wasn’t until I saw them swimming in an aquarium that I truly appreciated their full beauty. Being able to witness their development from a tiny ephyra to a fully grown specimen is a unique experience that anyone can now enjoy with just a few simple care steps. What’s truly exceptional, however, is watching their constant movement, which evokes a sense of calm and relaxation in the viewer.

All of this inspired me, a few years ago and after 12 years working in the biology department of the Oceanogràfic (Valencia), to start this project: the breeding, maintenance, and sale of jellyfish, along with providing everything necessary for their care and feeding—always prioritizing animal welfare.

Quienes somos Medusea

Ana Gordillo Suárez

She holds a degree in Biology from the University of Madrid (UAM) and a degree in Environmental Science from the University of Valencia (UPV). She began her career in large public aquariums, where she completed her internship and later developed her professional career. Before that, she embarked on the adventure of spending five months on a fishing boat bound for Newfoundland.

Ana knows the aquarium industry from every angle: as an aquarist, taking care of each of the exhibits and habitats. She also knows the fishing and aquaculture industries, gaining technical knowledge of facilities and sales, having worked in the sales department of one of the most recognized aquarium brands and distributors of aquarium equipment nationwide. This gives her professional experience that covers all the aspects Medusea requires to be a successful project and offer quality service.

Ana constantly investigates and seeks out new ideas, projects, and collaborations to promote Medusea in our country, and she’s always looking for the best products to make jellyfish aquaristics an unforgettable and satisfying experience.

Her family is always with her, and they have become a fundamental pillar and have allowed her to transmit her love for jellyfish.

The MEDUSEA Commitment

We aim to educate and raise awareness among all those who wish to explore this fascinating world, helping them to better understand the importance of jellyfish in marine ecosystems and to dispel the distorted image of jellyfish in our society.

Our top priority is animal welfare, which is why none of our animals are taken from the sea. All of them are bred in optimal facilities with special attention given to the specific needs of each species. Furthermore, our shipments are carried out with full guarantees for a safe arrival at their new home, including the necessary certifications and appropriate packaging designed specifically for them.

Medusea Blog

With our blog, we aim to provide a platform for outreach and shared knowledge for anyone interested. It’s a space to exchange opinions and questions, as well as to share tips for proper maintenance.ㅤㅤ

Environmental Outreach

Since the beginning, Medusea has collaborated with various environmental institutions and has been actively involved in ecological and marine conservation causes, because we believe that effective outreach is the foundation of environmental conservation.
