PRIME™ is a complete and concentrated conditioner suitable for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. Its primary function is to remove chlorine, chloramine, and ammonia from the water. Additionally, Prime™ converts ammonia into a safe, non-toxic form that is rapidly processed by the aquarium’s biological filter. This makes it an ideal product for use during the aquarium cycling process, as it helps reduce the toxicity of both ammonia and nitrite.
Prime™ also detoxifies nitrite and nitrate, allowing the biological filter to work more effectively in eliminating them. It neutralizes heavy metals typically found in tap water at standard concentrations. Another important benefit is that it promotes the natural production and regeneration of the fish’s protective slime coat. Unlike many other products, Prime™ is not acidic and does not affect the aquarium’s pH. In marine tanks, it has the added advantage of not overactivating protein skimmers. It is recommended to use Prime™ when starting a new tank and whenever water is added or changed.

In the case of chloramine (NCl₃), this reaction breaks the bonds between chlorine and nitrogen, producing ammonia as a byproduct. Many conditioners leave this free ammonia in the water, which can be dangerous. Prime™, however, goes a step further by including a compound that neutralizes this ammonia, rendering it non-toxic.
